“Type” refers to structural correctness. The “perfect” dairy goat would have all aspects of “ideal type” as described in the ADGA scorecard, used for judging dairy goats at ADGA Sanctioned Shows. At the American Dairy Goat Association Annual Convention, the Type Conference will address the structural correctness for dairy goat breeds.
The American Dairy Goat Association establishes type based on traits that represent the best well-being and productivity for each dairy goat breed. All dairy goat breeders and buyers would benefit from a better understanding of the traits that highly productive animals possess.
The 2018 ADGA Annual Convention will include a Type Conference on Friday, October 19 from 8:00 – 11:45 am titled, “Painting a Picture of the Productive Dairy Goat.”
ADGA’s Performance Programs Manager, Lisa Shepard, will be making a presentation on linear averages of animals from specific production ranges to help you recognize linear ranges from the ADGA Linear Appraisal type program that correlate to a more productive dairy goat. There will also be a round table discussion of production as it relates to type.
ADGA only holds a Type Conference at Annual Convention every other year. Make plans now to attend Annual Convention 2018 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and benefit from this workshop and many other activities that will improve your herd management. There are no additional fees to attend the Type Conference workshop.
