About the ADGA Convention Youth Program

ADGA welcomes the next generation to the goat year’s premier learning and social event!

The youth portion of the annual convention offers younger members a series of age-appropriate lectures, lessons, hands-on activities, and time to socialize with other youth members. The subjects change yearly as the committee works with local experts, so you never know what you might get when you sign up!

Some components of the youth program remain consistent from year to year.

  • Skillathon—somewhat similar to the management contest at Nationals. Youth rotate through stations where they are quizzed on tools, their uses, body parts, scorecards, breed standards, and more.
  • Scavenger hunt—teams complete a photo scavenger hunt around a portion of the convention center.
  • Pizza party!
  • Educational project—The group will divide into teams, each led by one of the older youth (often those running for youth rep). They will work to create an educational item—posters, displays, games, diagrams—about a provided topic.
  • Youth Representative Application and Competition—Those applying for youth rep submit paperwork at the end of Day 1. Throughout Day 2, applications are given some leadership opportunities and go through the interview process. Towards the end of Day 2, they receive the topic for their prepared speech, which is given at the Youth Awards Banquet.

The primary audience is youth ages 11-21 (Intermediate I through Senior), though we welcome youth as young as 8. Craft supplies are always available as an alternative activity.
